AGRICULTURE remains a veritable means of eradicating poverty and
ending food insufficiency in any nation, and if Nigerian youths develop keen
interest in it, unemployment would reduce and wealth creation enhanced, the
founder of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Evangelist Uma Ukpai, has
said.
Addressing the media in Uyo yesterday, Ukpai said that Nigeria, by
all standards, should be one of the richest countries of the world given its
abundant natural and human resources, regretting, however, that it could not
even feed its citizens due to misplaced priorities.
“Our youths should promote agriculture. They should promote
vocational skills acquisition since it has become very difficult to engage the
numerous graduates looking for white collar jobs,” he said.
He noted that agriculture has a lot of potential to not only
transform the national economy but also tremendously impact the personal lives
of the farmers, particularly the youth.
To that end, he tasked Nigeria youths to stop complaining about
poverty and unemployment or blaming government for every woe and challenge but
rather think of creating wealth through farming.
According to him, every nation is blessed by God just as every
person is endowed with divine creativity and common sense to exist, “but a
society where everybody runs after government to provide everything does not
prosper.”
