Farmers News - (Ghana) Government To Begin Road Projects In Cocoa Growing Areas

Government will soon begin massive road projects in cocoa growing areas as part of initiatives to improve agriculture, especially cocoa production.

The project which will last five years will cost 150 million dollars each year.

President Mahama announced this at this year's farmers day celebration held at Sefwi Wiawso in the Western Region.

Other projects to be undertaken include the importation of Agric mechanisation equipment from Brazil at the cost 95 million dollars, the drawing up of a five year Aquaculture Development Plan and the restriction of imports on poultry.

President Mahama also asked Cocobod to be firm in dealing with officials who divert fertilizers and agro inputs meant for farmers.

President Mahama said the over reliance on rain fed agriculture is a major setback.   He said government is working to address the numerous problems facing farmers.
